Electronic decision support system to improve medication
NRP 74 project 22: testing a new electronic decision support system for general practitioners to improve medication.
Older adults often live with several chronic diseases and therefore take several medications. Researchers from the University of Bern report in the renowned journal "The BMJ" on the use of a new electronic decision support system used by general practitioners with the aim of improving the medication of these patients. The study was conducted within the framework of NRP 74 (Project 22).
The study shows that the participating general practitioners implemented recommendations of the electronic decision support system for individual medication prescribing. Whether this also led to more appropriate medication prescribing among patients could not be answered unequivocally.
